La Compagnia de Violini was born from the meeting of Baroque violinist Alessandro Ciccolini and harpsichordist and organist Francesco Baroni, following twenty-five years of frequently shared concert activity. Their common passion for teaching and philological research finds its ideal fulfillment in the recovery of unpublished Italian repertoire, with particular attention to the Baroque musical tradition of Parma. The name recalls a historical group of violinists active at the Farnese Court between the late 16th and early 17th centuries, reflecting the intent to also foster the training of younger generations of musicians. The ensemble debuted in 2019 with a program dedicated to sonatas for three violins and basso continuo by composers from the Royal Chapel of Naples. In 2022, they performed J. A. Hasse's unpublished opera La Semele at Wigmore Hall in London. The ensemble has participated in the "Venetia Picciola" festival in Casalmaggiore with programs dedicated to A. Zani and his connection to Vivaldi, and in the "Modena Belcanto Festival", which they inaugurated in 2024 with a program on late 17th-century Modenese oratorio, followed by a performance the next year of A. Scarlatti's oratorio Il Martirio di Santa Teodosia. Since 2024, they have participated in the Farnese Festival, where they performed F. A. Pistocchi's oratorio Il Martirio di S. Adriano in collaboration with the "A. Boito" Conservatory of Parma. Recent recordings for Brilliant Classics include Vivaldi’s sonatas for two violins and a program of Vivaldian concertos that survived incomplete and were reconstructed by Alessandro Ciccolini.
