The Sala della musica is a fascinating space dedicated to concerts and other cultural activities, created in 2019 within the spectacular rooms on the ground floor of the Pilotta (nearly one thousand square meters), known as the Voltoni del Guazzatoio.
The spaces were entirely renovated based on a project by the architect Guido Canali to host temporary exhibitions and events, featuring a modern conference and screening room.
“Whoever is called to lead the Complesso Monumentale della Pilotta must dedicate a significant portion of their care to the Teatro Farnese, built in 1618, a prototype of the Baroque theatre and a precursor to modern Italian-style theatres.
Its presence, simultaneously imposing and silent, inevitably poses a precise question: how to restore this place to its original function, while respecting its historical and architectural identity. From this reflection, the Farnese Festival of Parma took shape.
The intent was to bring music back into the context for which the theatre was conceived, avoiding simple exhibition-based promotional efforts. A Baroque music festival within a Baroque theatre represents, in this sense, a unique experience: not a reconstruction or an interpretation, but a real coincidence between space, repertoire, and function.
Defining the artistic project required the involvement of a figure of recognized authority. The choice fell upon Fabio Biondi, one of the most significant performers in the field of Baroque music, whose expertise and sensitivity helped clearly outline the identity of the festival.
His direction has ensured a balance between historical rigor and performance quality, essential elements for an initiative of this level. The Farnese Festival of Parma thus configures itself as a cultural project aimed at reactivating a historical site through its original purpose, linking heritage and musical production.
This is not merely a calendar of events, but a journey that intends to consistently enhance the Teatro Farnese, restoring it to its performative dimension.
