POLIFEM CONSORT is a Catalan ensemble specializing in the performance of Early and Baroque music as well as contemporary repertoire.
Founded in 2023 by harpsichordist Jordi Domènech and violinist Anna Urpina, it was born from the desire to create an artistic proposal with its own identity, based on musicological rigor, expressive vitality, and the development of original programs.
Since its inception, the ensemble has distinguished itself through the flexibility of its formations — ranging from a quartet to groups of about fifteen musicians — which allows it to approach 17th and 18th-century repertoires with solidity and personality, alongside contemporary works and a particular focus on vocal music.
Among its most significant projects are Stylus Phantasticus, Farinelli's Shadow, The Birth of Orpheus, and the Spanish premiere of the oratorio La Conversione di Maddalena by Giovanni Bononcini, presented at the Francesc Viñas Festival in Moià and at La Pedra Parla, and recorded for Catalunya Música.
In recent years, Polifem Consort has participated in various leading festivals and seasons and has been the resident ensemble of Joventuts Musicals de Moià, where it has developed ongoing musical production and dissemination activities.
Farinelli's Shadow, featuring soprano Aurora Peña, has been presented at the Pyrenees Early Music Festival (FeMAP), the Proto-fest in Tortosa, the Atlàntida in Vic, and the Isaac Albéniz Festival in Camprodon.
In 2024, it successfully presented the program La Follia with soprano Maria Hinojosa, featuring a Baroque first half and a contemporary second half, including the world premiere of Vuit cançons desaforades by Jordi Domènech.
In 2025, a new program debuted, The Birth of Orpheus, with baritone Ferrán Albrich and a repertoire centered around Monteverdi.
In 2026, Polifem Consort will present two new programs: Domènec Terradellas in London, with male soprano Rafael Quirant, reviving several arias by the Barcelona Baroque composer, and Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, in addition to the premiere of the opera El tàvec at the Atlàntida in Vic, featuring Xavier Sabata and directed by Xavier Albertí.
Polifem Consort receives support from the Institució Puig-Porret.
