Among the research strands that characterize the activity of Fondazione Teatro Due, that of musical theatre is one of the most significant, fertilized by the collaboration with Fabio Biondi and L’Orchestra Europa Galante, who have always been in permanent residence at Teatro Due. Through a joint effort dedicated to the Baroque dramatic repertoire and the rediscovery of musical theatre forms, numerous prominent projects have been born, including, within the previous editions of the Farnese Festival, Arianna a Nasso by Jiří Antonín Benda (2025) and Trinummus by Tito Maccio Plauto with music by Giovanni Battista Martini.

Other important results of this research include Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno by Georg Friedrich Händel, staged in the Church of San Giovanni Evangelista in 2021, La virtù de’ strali d’Amore by Francesco Cavalli (2008), Bajazet and Ercole sul Termodonte by Antonio Vivaldi (2007), and La Didone by Giovan Francesco Busenello and Francesco Cavalli (2006).

This research direction is part of the broader artistic journey of Fondazione Teatro Due which, since 1986, has produced a theatrical season for the City of Parma dedicated to the most significant artists on the Italian and international scene, accompanied by meetings, conferences, and seminars with directors, actors, writers, scholars, scientists, and intellectuals from various disciplines. Teatro Due also has a permanent ensemble of actresses and actors and collaborates continuously with numerous artists, performers, and directors, developing an activity that combines production, study, and contemporary experimentation.
